On the northwest corner of Emerson Street and Towanda Avenue, Ewing Manor overlooks the surrounding community of Bloomington, Illinois. The Manor stands as a romantic tribute to a bygone era and remarkable spirit and foresight of its namesakes, Davis and Hazle Buck Ewing.
Designer Phil Hooten, working closely with the Ewings, incorporated French-inspired detailing and English functionalism into the Channel-Norman residence. The revival design style centered on the theory and the charm of a country property could be attributed to the presence of animals as well as human occupants. The style of architecture was very much in keeping with Hazle's lifelong concern for nurturing the environment and maintaining all that was natural.
